Some people wonder what compelled us to name a record label "Death2Self." No matter which side of the fence you're on; the Christian community or other, the name brings up some questions. Most notable of questions: "Is Death2Self promoting suicide?"

Rest assured, we're not promoting suicide, at least, not in the natural. When founder, Jason "SA" Torres created the record label, he wanted to establish two things:

• Create a name with a modern edge, something with shock value and draw attention.
• Have a connection to our Biblical vision without sounding too Biblical, in order to reach the masses without coming off preachy or churchy.

Bring Back The Moral Standard

Death2Self at its core is a response to the secular music industry. It's mission is a reprogramming of values that the music industry has torn down in our society. Music today dictates a "Me, Myself and I" mentality. Don't believe us? All you need to do is look passed the catchy vibes and beats to pay attention to the lyrics and what many of today's favorite artists are really saying. You'll soon see that many of them are in no position to be role models for our children, boasting messages of lust, violence and love for money.

We know that these music artists are not to blame. The Word of God says we do not fight against flesh and blood (Ephesians 6:12). It also teaches us to love the sinner but hate the sin, as is the perspective of God.

Denying Myself

Death2Self is meant to answer the call and raise a new moral standard in the music industry. The name also comes from Biblical teachings of denying (Death) our flesh (Self). From Luke 9:23-24 when Christ said "If anyone is to come before me, he must take up his cross daily and follow me. Anyone who wants to save his life will lose it, but anyone who loses his life for me, he will find it."

We believe that anyone who puts God before themselves is following the "Death2Self" guideline. Doing so means living out their lives by putting others first and not being focused on fame and fortune like many of the music industry's leading recording artists.

What We Stand For

Besides having artists all across the country touring to reach the urban societies of many states, we also host an annual conference D2S FEST - the one time of the year that all labelmates join together for one big show.

AMP'ed Radio has also played a part in utilizing our ministry to reach the masses by promoting our music as well as opening the window for other Christian artists and creating a radio mixshow / talk show.

What Death2Self does is take the road less travelled for a Christian record company. In it's appeal, it comes across as a secular label. The artists signed to Death2Self are all in genres and music styles familiar to the secular music industry, speaking on the very same topics that the world speaks on but provides positive messages and solutions to many unanswered questions.

When you think of Death2Self, we don't want you to think of us as a "Christian Record Label" although we clearly stand for Christ and promote Him through every facet of our operation. If the beat and melodies is what draws attention we want to use our lyrics to tell the story. We want to reach with our content. We want to be all things to everyone, in order to win some (1 Corinthians 9:22).
